Rustic gold knobs

I love the antique gold effect. It goes great with warm ivory or magnolia walls. I recently redecorated my spare bedroom. In it I had a wardrobe I painted green and a chest of drawers which ended up dusky pink (These colours go great together!). They are both classic pine pieces of furniture which usually come with big wooden knobs. They are very easy to paint any colour you want.

What you need

  • Knobs
  • Gold acrylic paint
  • Brush
  • Dark wax
  • non linen cloth

gold stuff

What you do

1. To create a rustic/distressed effect, apply the first coat of the paint and let it dry.

2. For your second coat apply a fairly thick layer of paint and cover the knob using a small brush going in every direction. Uneven application will add texture. Try stippling in places.

3. Once the second coat dries, grab a non-linen cloth or a wax brush and thinly apply the dark wax. It will get into the grooves creating antique gold effect. The more wax you add, the darker the knobs will be.

4. Leave the wax to dry for an hour (longer of you applied a thick layer of wax)

Once dry, they’re ready to put back on.
